Just What Is a Fellowship-Styled Church?
The inspiration for Heritage Christian Fellowship came primarily from Acts 2:42: “And they continued steadfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers.” Just as this is the core structure of our fellowship, Ephesians 4:11-16 rounds it out: “And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers, for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ; that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting, but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head — Christ — from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.”
Everyone has something God has placed within them to contribute to the growth of the Body of Christ. While traditional pulpit centered churches have a valued place in ministry, it is our belief that it is not the only way the Body of Christ is to be manifested. Many feel they’ve not been in church unless they’ve sat through the stoic hymns and pulpit ministry that characterize the traditional church, but many more leave empty and too often still burdened and hurting.
HCF-WV is radically different. From it’s blend of country and contemporary music to it’s ‘round the table discussion of the apostles doctrine, this fellowship of believers is committed to the spiritual growth of every individual through the nurturing of prayer and ministry and the development of each individual’s gifts as Christ bestows them to supply to the Body for its growth. Each Sunday morning we gather at 11 to share praises and pitfalls of our past week, to pray for God’s assistance and intervention in each others lives, and to break bread together as we share a light brunch. As we share our personal concerns and battles, we turn to God’s Word for His remedies and discuss its application in our situations. As Paul describes in 1 Corinthians 14:26-33, every person has opportunity to share in ministry without the fear of being “called down” or reprimanded. Direction is provided by the Pastor and elders with the goal of growing God’s gift in others as described in Ephesians 4.
The Importance of Love
As Paul details in 1 Corinthians 13, it matters little how gifted anyone is if they fail the test of love. What makes a fellowship-styled church work is the high caliber of love and respect each member has for the other. It is our highest priority and strictest “rule”. Philippians 2:1-4 gives application to this, “Therefore if there is any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any affection and mercy, fulfill my joy by being likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind. Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests, but also for the interests of others.”
This is also the foundation for our 7pm Wednesday night Intercessory Prayer meetings. To “intercede” means to insert between, and that’s what we do through intercessory prayer. After presenting prayer requests together as one body before God we take up the battle against spiritual wickedness in high places, inserting ourselves spiritually between the attacker and the attacked (1 Timothy 2:1, Ephesians 6:12).e

Liberal "comedian" Kathy Griffin thinks there is no line of rudeness she can't cross, including calling the daughters of Sen. Scott Brown "prostitutes." On Monday's Joy Behar Show on CNN Headline News, Griffin proclaimed "But yes, whenever a statement is issued against me, I`m in heaven. I feel my next special is half written for me. And then I get to read statements allowed in my live shows which you can go to KathyGriffin.net and see the many, many cities I`ve picked up for my current tour."
